Stampede Strings Western Hats and Cowboy Hats
We carry a variety of western stampede strings that are made from leather, braided leather, braided horse hair or man-made materials. Most of the horsehair that is used are natural colors while some of the horsehair is dyed for a more decorative look. The dyed horsehair colors include red, pink, lime, blue, green, purple, teal and turquoise.
The ends of the stampede strings are supplied with either horsehair tassels, leather tassels, horsehair knots, leather knots, beds or metal tips. The tassels can be single tassels, double mule tail tassels or triple mule tail tassels.
All of our stampede strings come with a slide to secure the strings under the chin or around the back of the head keeping the hat in place. Some of the slides are made from braided horsehair knots, braided leather knots, beads, ferrules or some other type of natural or man-made material. The braided type are usually referred to as slide knots or sliding knots.
Some of our stampede strings are supplied with braided horse hair knots, braided leather knots, ferrules or beads for decoration.
We carry two different styles of stampede strings, the Adjustable Loop Style and the Cotter Pin Style. The Adjustable Loop Style is also referred as the Double Loop Style or Full Loop Style.
The Adjustable Loop Style Stampede Strings require careful installation and requires two holes to be placed in the cowboy hat that the loops pass through. For installation information please see the following information on
eHow or
Hubpages.
The Cotter Pin Style is much easier to install. This style requires that a cotter pin that is attached to the end of each stampede string be inserted into the seam between the hat and the sweat band. The cotter pin is expanded which helps prevent the string from being pulled out of the seam. For installation information please see the following information on eHow or Hubpages.
Stampede strings can be added to other styles of hats besides cowboy hats such as Panama hats, sombreros or straw hats.
Stampede strings were originally installed to prevent cowboy hats from being blown off a cowboy's head when riding above normal speed or when it became windy. These long strings were usually made from leather or horsehair.
We have quite a few more styles of stampede strings to add to our website. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.
